We all need some songs to put on in the background while we stare into the flickering flames of a yule log and contemplate our existential quandaries, and this year we’ve selected a few choice Nintendo tracks that you can relax to whilst surrounded by friends and family.

First up we have perhaps the most quintessential piece of wintry Nintendo music, Earthbound’s Snowman:

A similarly somber and snowy delight can be found in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’s Snowpeak, which rearranges the game’s main theme to be morose and melancholy:

For something with a familiar vibes but a decidedly more futuristic fell, there’s Metroid Prime’s Phendrana Drifts:

For a curated indie selection, we have to go with the subdued serenity of Cave Story’s Balcony:

And of course we can hardly mention video game holiday music without Undertale’s Snowdin:

While it’s associated more with water than snow, there are few pieces of Nintendo music more iconically relaxing than Super Mario 64’s Dire Dire Docks:

Eryth Sea from Xenoblade Chronicles carries a similar aquatic ambiance, albeit with a much more sweeping and plodding melody:

And as far as game soundtracks go in general, you can’t go wrong with the soft gentility ofKirby’s Epic Yarn:

Do you have a holiday fav to decompress to? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
