From its reveal there was an appeal to Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. Whether it was the odd mix of gameplay styles (action platforming/RICE FARMING) or the aesthetic and sensibilities out of Japanese myth, the game has managed to do well out of the gate. Novel its mix may be, it’s also satisfying and intricately thought out and has sold an impressive 500,000 copies across platforms since launch.

North American publisher XSEED and the developers Edelweiss have done well on this one, citing it as a bestseller, with physical copies reportedly selling out in stores. We recommend picking up the Divine Edition if you can, but any way you can experience Sakuna is a good one.

Speaking on the success of its launch, XSEED Executive Vice President Kenji Hosoi had this to say:

“We’ve known that Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin was a special game and would have broad appeal since our first meeting with Edelweiss. The game has been in development for many years, and we’re beyond excited at the reception it has received globally from critics and consumers alike. Thank you to everyone who has accompanied Sakuna and her companions on their journey!”

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is available now on Switch, PS4, and PC.
