Up until now, digital Switch pre-orders via the eShop had to be paid in advance, meaning if you changed your mind you were out of luck unless you wanted to risk a lengthy refund process. Thankfully Nintendo has changed its policy.

On the updated “About Pre-Orders” page, Nintendo states that “the expected payment date is no sooner than seven days before the product is released”. Cancelling can be done at any time up until payment is made, and you can find out when that’ll be by following these instructions:

You can check the product’s expected payment date by selecting Shop Menu in your Nintendo Account settings then selecting Your Pre-orders, or via Your Pre‑orders under Account Information on Nintendo eShop on your device.
