As part of GamesRadar+’s Future Games Show, they had a chance to speak with Sega of America Localization Producer Andrew Davis about the just-revealed Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. During the brief talk Davis was able to confirm the return of “…all the rulesets and challenges that were popular in the original Puyo Puyo Tetris…” while also explaining a bit more about the sequel’s Skill Battle and Adventure mode.

Skill Battles were shown in the debut trailer, but were further elaborated on here. Parties of three will be formed, and as you explore the overworld map of Adventure Mode you’ll be able to find branching paths and optional side stories where you can recruit more characters. More characters means more and more varied skills, letting you build a better Skill Battle team. Factor in items and HP bars and it’s looking like Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is adding a little RPG into its competitive puzzle gameplay.

You can pre-order Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 now, coming to Switch and current consoles on December 8th, PlayStation 5 this holiday, and PC early next year.
