We’ve had our eye on Spiritfarer, the 2D hand-drawn game about death coming from Thunder Lotus Games, for a while now. While that descriptor might put macabre imagery in your head, Spiritfarer is more about the experience of death after a life well-lived, and the idea of moving on and saying goodbye. See for yourself just how lovely that can be in the launch trailer:

That’s right, I said launch trailer. Previously only listed as “2020,” Spiritfarer has released today in the wake of Nintendo’s Indie World presentation. On today’s surprise, the game’s Creative Director Nicolas Guérin had this to say:

“I will say that it’s been pretty tough keeping this launch under the radar!”

“We took what is by far our biggest, most ambitious production yet, and decided to up the ante by releasing Spiritfarer simultaneously on almost every system under the sun. Our fans have been so patient, waiting for us just to say ‘when’. Well, I’m happy to tell them: the time is now! Spiritfarer is a game that’s near and dear to our hearts, so we hope you’ll set sail with us.”

That sentiment can be felt in the game’s animated trailer, debuting today as well:

You can journey into Spiritfarer now on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC for $29.99.
