Back in 2014 a little-known flash game called Phoenotopia was released online, an epic 2D adventure RPG that perfectly blended aspects of Cave Story and Zelda with a lighthearted tone to make a game that punched far above its weight class. And now, over half a decade later, a remake of that experience with expanded graphics, items, locations, and basically everything is hitting the Nintendo Switch in Phoenotopia: Awakening.
Follow the adventure of a young woman named Gail, who embarks on a mystery-solving quest when a starship shows up and abducts all the adults of her humble village. With puzzle-laden dungeons, gorgeous pixel-art backdrops, and a whole ton of tools at Gail’s disposal, this game’s shaping up to be even bigger and better than the already stellar original.
Phoenotopia: Awakening releases on August 20th.
