While the Nintendo Switch has plenty of beat ’em ups to choose from at this point, one of the first to hit the system was a port of Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds. The game bore more than a few similarities to the beloved Scott Pilgrim game, only with the cast of Canadian 20-somethings replaced with hyper anime girls (and Makise Kurisu from Steins;Gate).

Now it’s getting a spiritual successor of sorts in the form of Ogre Tale, from original developer Mages and publisher Degica Games.

The new game promises a snarky story with three main playable characters who can be freely customized as they battle their way through the stages. You can check out the trailer below:

Ogre Tale is launching for Steam on August 20th, while a release for Switch, PS4, and Xbox One is confirmed but undated.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
