Heads up: Though Pac-Man has always been an “appropriate for all ages” character and series, the song featured in this article features strong language that would be found above that age rating.

As part of their ongoing series of releases known as Song Machine, the highly acclaimed (and one of my personal favorites) band Gorillaz has released a new track featuring an arcade legend. Titled “PAC-MAN,” the song name-checks the game while also featuring the band’s vocalist 2D playing a modified version of the game itself.

The rest of the virtual band also appear in the video (both as themselves and as Ghosts), as does rapper ScHoolboy Q. The video was recorded just before lockdowns due to COVID-19 went into effect, and based on the video, will be the last Song Machine release until at least September.

Timed for Pac-Man’s ongoing 40th anniversary, it’s another fantastic entry in the series that you can check out in full on the virtual band’s YouTube or your streaming platform of choice.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
