The most recent Nintendo Investor Q&A session has been officially translated and released. While we previously covered its points about mobile gaming, there’s an intriguing question about the company’s next generation plans that also shed some light onto the Switch itself.

The question asks about the “outlook for [Nintendo’s] next game system”, to which President Furukawa replies that Switch hardware momentum “is increasing”, attributing it to the two hardware configurations (the standard Switch and the Lite) as well as Nintendo’s concentration on developing content for a single platform. What’s noteworthy is that he says the company wants “to extend the life cycle of Nintendo Switch while maximizing such advantages.”

Ko Shiota, one of Nintendo’s senior executive officers, went on to say that through Switch the company has “made many discoveries about where a dedicated video game platform can fit into a consumer’s daily life.” He goes on to say that they will “utilize these experiences in carefully considering the form [their] future game consoles take.”

So, it sounds like the Switch has some ways ahead of it too, and whatever Nintendo makes next might just follow in its footsteps. Naturally, we’ll be sure to bring you all the latest as it happens.
