That coveted first party slot in your Pokémon quest has had some features attached to it over the years. The most fun one is having your Pokémon buddy forego their Poké Ball and travel behind you. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu/Eevee! allowed us to double down, having Pikachu or Eevee hang out on our shoulders and letting us pick out an additional Pokémon to follow behind.

Sadly, Pokémon Sword and Shield didn’t have this feature. Isle of Armor, the DLC pack associated with Pokémon Sword, is changing that.

Reported by Serebii, after some point in the Isle of Armor story, the Pokémon that’s first in your party will follow you! There hasn’t been a solid confirmation of when this trigger happens, but some players have noticed this change after they acquire Kubfu.

In response to Serebii’s tweet, Pokémon Trainers from all over the world have shared pictures or videos of this feature in action!

Currently, this feature is only active within the Isle of Armor and doesn’t carry over to the rest of the Galar region. Given that the DLC has been out for less than a day, this may change, but so far we haven’t seen any reports to contradict this.
