Pokémon and Animal Crossing, while two very different series, tend to overlap in the fandom department. Whether it’s a new addition to the Pokédex or a new neighbor moving onto your island, fanart and other artistic mediums tend to crop up when new releases/updates drop. Creative duo “The Nooksters” are taking things one step further by making a Pokémon and Animal Crossing mash-up video series thanks to Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ various features.
Initially posted on Reddit, The Nooksters shared a battle sequence featured in their second episode from the video series, Pocket Villagers: Blue Horizons. Riffing on Pokémon Blue and memes from both game series, the clip features Ash Ketchum (nicknamed Stinker after one member of The Nooksters) battling against Gary (dubbed Seabass). Villagers Drift and Pate are the stand-ins for Charmander and Squirtle and with the power of Harvey’s Island and some video editing software, battle and dialogue overlays complete the piece.
