Streets of Rage 4 is out now, but that hasn’t stopped new information regarding its development from coming out: according to DualShockers, Streets of Rage 4 almost saw Joe Musashi from Sega’s Shinobi as a playable character. This info was revealed during a livestream interview with Guard Crush, the developers behind Streets of Rage 4.

It seems that, while Jordi Asensio, game designer on Streets of Rage 4, wanted to put Joe Musashi in Streets of Rage 4 as a playable character, Sega Japan decided to nip that idea in the bud. As cool as it would’ve been, it seems Guard Crush was only in contact with a “small division” of Sega Japan, which complicated any notion of using Joe Musashi.

Overall, the interview consisted of three developers: the aforementioned Jordi Asensio, programmer Cyrille Lagarigue, and composer Olivier Deriviere. The fully translated interview is set to be released by Dualshockers shortly.

Of course, if you’re curious about our thoughts about the game you can check out Tom Brown’s review.
