The past few years have seen a resurgence of indie games with their own take on the Pokémon formula. Some, like Temtem, went the MMO route, letting players interact in the game world. Others, like Disc Creatures, went all-in with the retro aesthetic. Now we have Cassette Beasts, which has put the concept in a wide open world and given it some fusion flavor. Check it out in action in the trailer below:

Cassette Beasts is being developed by Bytten Studios, a team that previously worked on the action-adventure title Lenna’s Inception and various Chucklefish titles, including Stardew Valley and Wargroove.

Release dates for the Windows, Linux, and Switch versions of Cassette Beasts have yet to be confirmed, but we’ll be sure to keep you up to date on all the latest as it comes in.
