Have you ever thought to yourself, “Gee, I wonder who the best country at [insert-game-title-here] is?” If so, a new study may provide you with such answers: video game publisher Kwalee has taken a deep dive and revealed the best gaming countries in the world.

According to its research and study, the company used more than 16,000 titles to determine the best overall gaming countries, using the methodology below for its scoring system:

To reveal where is best at gaming around the world, we used data available from, with the correct standings as of April 2020. The data included 42,032 achievements across a total of 16,709 games. We totaled the amount of first placed achievements scored by each country per capita to gain the overall rankings. For game and genre specific rankings, we filtered the data and conducted the same process, and will look to add more games to our map, in addition to refreshing the findings in the future.

Of course, the Nintendo-specific games used in this study were the likes of Mario Kart, Super Mario, Animal Crossing, Ecco the Dolphin, Donkey Kong, and Pokémon.

7. Netherlands
8. Scotland

11. Germany

20. Belgium 

This is the most-skilled overall, but certain countries were top at specific genres of video games. For instance: Japan took home Best at Fighting; United States was the Best at Shooter; Norway was crowned Best at Sports; and Scotland was Best at Racing.
