Over the weekend, a new art challenge began to circulate around Twitter. Slowly but surely, my feed was seeing artists taking various album covers and putting an Animal Crossing twist on them. This meme was inevitable to appear after New Horizons’ release, as K.K. Slider returns in Animal Crossing’s latest adventure. Plus, for every K.K. song, there’s an album cover to go with it.

Funnily enough, this recent art challenge rendition didn’t start on Twitter, but on TikTok. User annqell posted a video outlining the art challenge on April 11th. Showing a timelapse of her piece, she then made a call for people to create their own and share it. When the challenge made it onto Twitter it grew, but didn’t have an “official” hashtag yet. Terms like “kk slider” and “kk slider redraw album” were initially used, but now artists are tending to use #kkslider and #kkslideralbumredraw along with the official Animal Crossing hashtags when sharing their pieces.

Here’s a sampling of what happens when you give artists a simple topic with almost endless possibilities while dealing with quarantine orders.
