Last night the Nintendo Switch’s firmware saw another big update to version 10.0.0, adding the likes of button remapping and a few new avatar options. Hidden within its files, though, is something a lot more exciting.

As dataminer Mike Heskin reports, three out of five new DRAM profiles seem to be allocated for a new hardware model labelled “nx-abcd”. Even more intriguingly, Heskin goes on to say that there’s evidence of a secondary display potentially being involved.

Given Nintendo’s history of using two screens, with the DS and Wii U having unique implementations of the concept, there’s precedence for such an approach being taken with a new Switch model, but we’ll have to wait and see. Nintendo’s President Furukawa already stated earlier this year that the company has no plans to release a new Switch model in 2020, so it could be a while yet before we see any confirmation.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
