During the heart-meltingly charming Animal Crossing Direct, we learned that an update would arrive near release to support Bunny Day in game. That update is live for those who’ve preloaded or already have the game based on eShop regions, and with it comes knowledge! Some have tried to access the Bunny Day festivities early, but as detailed on a Japanese page for the New Horizons update, it can’t be done.

Unlike previous games, the nature of these online updates prevents the holidays from being accessed outside of their normal availability. Apparently, an internet connection will be required to verify your system’s date and time, meaning you can’t celebrate Halloween on Christmas or get your Bunny Day on a bit ahead of schedule.

Thankfully, it looks like holidays are extending to longer term events to facilitate our busy lives and lack of control. Bunny Day, for example, will last from April 1st to April 12th. That means if you want to see it all and fill up that catalog, you’ll be playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for at least a whole year — no complaints here!
