Sonic the Hedgehog has earned $57 million domestically in its three-day opening, with a projected four-day gross of a whopping $68 million due to President’s Day.

We reported on the huge Thursday opening for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, when it was predicted the movie would go on to earn $40-$50 million opening weekend, and it turns out the blue blur can’t be stopped.

This means that Sonic the Hedgehog has officially surpassed the record of highest opening for a video game adaptation set by Detective Pikachu at $54.3 million.

We will see if Sonic has legs (pun intended) and if it can keep audiences coming past the holiday weekend, but for now this is a huge victory for SEGA and those who worked on redesigning Sonic for the movie.
