While the Mother series has been dormant in the gaming space in recent years outside of ports of Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings to various platforms, the series has continued to see merchandise from creator Shigesato Itoi’s company Hobonichi Shinbun. Chief among this merch is books and journals adorned with the iconic characters and sprite work, and now it looks like a manga adaptation could be on the cards.
The company has asked for any manga artists (AKA “mangaka”) who are interested in the Mother series to reach out to the company via the email address [email protected] for a secret project.
ほぼ日の永田です。教えてほしいことがあります。でも「それを聞いてどうするの?」とは聞かないでね。
『MOTHER』を好きな漫画家さんをご存知ありませんか?

Outside of that little else is known, and the message even goes on to ask that no one posits the question “what do you want to do?” That said, considering it’s a manga artist the company is looking for, we can get to wishing for an official adaptation of one of the games, or even a tell-all book about the game’s development akin to the compilation of Iwata Asks interviews Hobonichi Shinbun recently released.
