River City Girls was one of my more anticipated indies last year, what with its beat ‘em up roots and eye-catching presentation. As reviewed, it “…might not have the surest footing, but it still hits hard and looks cute doing it.” Probably my biggest issue was that doors and other screen transitions were mapped to the same button as your main attack, making for lots of accidental bounces between areas. Thankfully, Wayforward was listening, as a patch is coming to the game that addresses this and a few other issues.
A River City Girls patch has arrived on Steam, featuring, by popular demand, revamped interaction with doors and NPCs, alongside a modified ending following the bonus boss fight and many other behind-the-scenes fixes! The update will arrive on consoles in the future! pic.twitter.com/cbjVM2eacm

Already live on Steam, the patch also modifies the game’s alternate ending for beating its secret boss. River City Girls’ ending was certainly a little out there (in a self referential way), so seeing a different take on the game’s resolution once you’ve taken the extra effort is a nice addition. They assure the original ending is still there too, though, making for a ‘best of both worlds’ approach.
Expect the patch to come to consoles “in the future.”
