French love is ultimately what allowed Dotemu to develop Windjammers 2 | Nintendo Wire

Windjammers may be an old Japanese arcade game, originally released for the Neo Geo, but that didn’t stop French game developer Dotemu, and French Windjammers enthusiasts, from willing the game back into existence. In a recent interview with IGN, Dotemu and Windjammers players share their side of the story, about how French love kept the series relevant.

In a series of unlikely events, Dotemu acquired the rights to Windjammers behind a huge French player push. This uprising led to Windjammers being re-released back in 2017, showing up at Evo 2018, and ultimately leading to Windjammers 2, the French-driven sequel, being developed.

Windjammers 2 promises more of the original’s feeling while adding in more complexity — the game is set to release later this year.
