As 2019 comes to a close, it’s important to appreciate the little nods just as much as the sweeping gestures. Take the new Brain Age Switch game that just came out in Japan (and will arrive in the UK and Australia very soon): there’s a tiny, simple, charming nod to Super Mario Odyssey found in the most innocuous place.

If you end up with the “Walking Speed” achievement, flick the little dude pacing around on screen and he’ll start whistling the tune to “Jump Up, Superstar!” — which is just a little bit delightful. We can only hope such quaintness bodes well for the foreseeable future, and that Ninty continues to add innocent little references like these.
