There are countless indies in the Switch eShop, but if you want a unique experience, you owe it to yourself to try Just Shapes & Beats. Combining elements of bullet hells with rhythm games and some eye-catching art direction, it’s a treat for the senses and reflexes that’s about to break new ground on a collab with an indie that needs no introduction.

That’s right, Shovel Knight is in yet another game, with four remixes of Jake Kaufman’s original soundtrack getting the full Just Shapes & Beats treatment, including a new boss stage:

  • “Strike the Earth! (Remix)” by Danimal Cannon
  • “Flowers of Antimony (Remix)” by Rainbowdragoneyes
  • “In the Halls of the Usurper (Remix)” by Kubbi
  • “La Danse Macabre (Remix)” by Shirobon (Brand New Boss)

While all of these can be encountered randomly in the game’s Challenge Mode and unlocked for the Playlist via Beat Points, you can speed up the process exclusively on Nintendo Switch via the Shovel Knight amiibo — that’s right, new indie amiibo functionality! By tapping Shovel Knight (in blue or gold varieties), you’ll unlock Strike the Earth!, Plague Knight will concoct Flowers of Antimony, King Knight bequeaths In the Halls of the Usurper, and Spectre Knight will dig up La Danse Macabre.

Three of those amiibo won’t be available for a bit after release, with the long delayed Triple Pack arriving on December 10th alongside King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown. As for the Just Shovels & Knights update, it’ll be free for Just Shapes & Beats owners on all platforms starting December 4th.
