The Pokémon Company and Nintendo can always count on Pokémon games to do gangbusters, but even they may be surprised by Sword & Shield’s early success.

As reported by The Pokémon Company, Sword & Shield have sold a combined six million copies since releasing last Friday, becoming the fastest selling Switch games so far. This is double the number Pokémon Let’s Go shifted last year, and one million more than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s early success. It also means the games have already surpassed New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Mario Maker 2, and Link’s Awakening HD’s sales numbers as of September 30, 2019.

Not only that but Japanese sales made up two million of the six million total.

We’ll just have to wait and see if the sales hold strong over the holiday season!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
