Yesterday’s Direct had plenty of surprises, but the Japanese Direct had even more. One of the most noteworthy of these was the announcement that Nintendo would be working with the developer Mages (Steins;Gate, Phantom Breaker) on remakes of Famicom Tentei Club I and II.

While these very retro detective visual novels never saw a release in the west, you may know them for featuring Ayumi Tachibana, who was almost picked by Masahiro Sakurai to be a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Nintendo developers who worked on the original will be supervising Mages with the new game, which will feature redone graphics and music, plus full voice acting.

The Famicom Tantei Club I and II remakes will hit Japan in 2020, and a western release is as of yet unconfirmed. Here’s hoping we finally get the chance to play them!
