In a recent Tweet, Nintendo of Europe has announced that the 3DS and Wii U eShop services will no longer be accepting credit card payment options starting in September 2019. Instead, users who want to add funds to their accounts with their card will have to jump through a few hoops, as detailed on the official website.

If you’ve already connected your NNID and Nintendo accounts, it shouldn’t be too much of a process, but it’ll still prove an extra barrier to game purchases on the systems.

The removal of the service has yet to be confirmed for any other regions outside of Europe, but there’s a likelihood that it’s tied into the “Revised Directive on Payment Services” that the European Commission is introducing next month.
