The dormancy of Super Monkey Ball has been criminal, which is why I’m so pleased to see Sega rolling out a lot of love for the upcoming return of the series, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD. Yes, it’s a remake. Yes, it’s a remake of a game a lot of people slept on or don’t hold to the standard of the original duo. But you know what? Have a listen to this and tell me you’re not smiling:

That right there is the theme song, Koisuru Bananana, for at least the Japanese release of the game, courtesy of Banana Fritters. Yeah, that’s their name. It’s so cheerful and fun and has more horns than you can shake a rudie at. With lyrics that call you to “Bite a little bit of me!! You’ll see why!!” — this is easily living up to Sega’s musical legacy as seen in the Sonic Adventure titles and all of Samba de Amigo.

I’m holding out hope that this’ll be in the international version in its full form — though even if it’s made into an instrumental, I’ll be picking up Banana Blitz HD on October 29th for sure.

You can pre-order your copy of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD on Amazon.
