As August turns to September, Switch owners will be able to take a digital trip to Japan’s Shimane Prefecture in Root Letter: Last Answer, an updated port of the 2016 visual novel from Kadokawa Games.

In the game you try to uncover the truth behind a murder that took place 15 years ago, meeting the friends of the victim who have since grown up. You’ll gather evidence, talk to witnesses, explore the lovingly-detailed recreations of the town, and more.

The remake also includes a Live Action mode that swaps out the drawings for real-world photographs and actors. There are also new epilogues for returning players to experience.

Root Letter: Last Answer launches on August 30th in Europe and in North America on September 3rd.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
