The pixel wizards at WayForward are back with a new addition to the long-running River City (aka Kunio-kun) series: River City Girls.

River City Girls finds Kyoko and Misako pinching and kicking their way through River City to rescue their boyfriends, Kunio and Riki, who star in other games in the series. This game features beautiful 16-bit sprites that (surprisingly) don’t feature the regular chibi art style the series is known for. It also has animated cutscenes and a soundtrack made by artists such as Chipzel and Christina Vee.

The game releases on September 5th, and will cost $29.99. A physical version will be available through Limited Run Games, but the price and date of that are yet to be announced. The game will be playable at Anime Expo at the WayForward booth, so if you are going, be sure to check it out! For now, check out the teaser trailer:
