One of my more anticipated releases this year is not by a big name studio, but a small indie fighter based on a card game.

Fantasy Strike, which was announced for Switch last year, finally has a release date: July 25th. In a blog post, developer Sirlin Games details some of the changes they have implemented in the game’s four year development.

Fantasy Strike is based on the characters from Yomi, a card game that is meant to simulate a one-on-one fighting game. It’s an absolutely amazing card game worth checking out, but I digress. Fantasy Strike focuses on being beginner-friendly — there are no complicated inputs for moves, and health bars are in pips, so you always know how much damage you have left and how much you will do.

The game looks like a lot of fun and should be yet another solid fighting game on the Nintendo Switch! If you’re looking for a closer look at what you can expect from it, check out the trailer below.
