PlatinumGames has been riding high for a bit now, with Nier: Automata’s glowing success (on every current platform save Switch…) and the upcoming releases Astral Chain and Bayonetta 3 (these two exclusive to Switch). They’ve made no secret of a little something they’d like to work on, though, and that’s a rerelease of The Wonderful 101 for Nintendo Switch.

Easily one of the most criminally overlooked titles on the Wii U, Platinum is aware of the shortcomings of that particular release and platform and have hinted that the Switch is where the W101 could rise again. Speaking to VGC at E3 this year, studio head Atsushi Inaba made it known they’ve “…talked to a lot of people…” and “…done a lot of intel gathering…” with respect to the game.

Though it’s definitely a passion project for Platinum themselves, Inaba is glad they’ve spoken to others about the potential of the title. As is Nintendo holds the rights to W101, and with how closely Platinum has been working with them throughout the Wii U and Switch lifecycles, it’s not unlikely that something could happen eventually. I was one of the 13 people who bought and finished The Wonderful 101 on Wii U, so here’s hoping for another shot at greatness on Switch.

Platinum fans can, for now, look forward to Astral Chain’s release on August 30th.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
