E3 is now over, which means it’s time to rest our hype trains and focus on Nintendo’s summer lineup. Kicking off this season is Super Mario Maker 2, the sequel to the time sink and tinkering level builder Super Mario Maker on the Wii U. Just today, Nintendo has treated us to a Super Mario Maker 2-centric Nintendo Direct and a Super Mario Maker 2 Invitational matchup — with 11 days to go, any news tied to the game will concern advertising the sequel to the masses.
Added to Nintendo’s YouTube account, a new commercial shows off snippets of levels we’ve seen before and ones we haven’t. Keeping with the controlled chaos that Super Mario Maker brought, Nintendo included some nail-biting obstacles that await us when hitting START on a brand new course for the first time. Everything seems like a “normal” Mario level until you’re up against a menagerie of baddies flying around, thanks to Lakitu Clouds.
