If you’re a fan of the classic Sega series Wonder Boy, the Nintendo Switch is the place to be. With the remake Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, the all-new Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, and the recent indie throwback Aggelos, there are plenty of options, but this latest game is going all the way back to the beginning.

Where those games reference the side-scrolling RPG entries in the series, Wonder Boy Returns Remix calls back to the original 1986 arcade game, which is a very different beast. Originally released for PC back in 2016, this new Switch port features a new Charge Shot mechanic. Check it out:
 

 
If it looks strangely familiar, Hudson Soft adapted the game as Adventure Island for the NES, which spun-off into its own series totally unrelated to Wonder Boy. It’s a very convoluted history!

Wonder Boy Returns Remix is heading to Switch on May 23rd.
