A new game has been announced from the devs over at Tokyo RPG Factory (the folks behind I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear). Titled “Oninaki”, this new IP looks like it could be the fledgling studio’s most intriguing release yet, portraying a world of the living and the dead in style.

Oninaki follows a Watcher named Kagachi, who manifests the souls of Daemons to do battle. He can freely travel between the realm of the living and the afterlife known as the Beyond, and seeks to save the souls of the Lost. Unlike TRPGF’s previous offerings, which were heavily based on the likes of Chrono Trigger, Oninaki appears to be an Action RPG more in the vein of the Zelda or Mana games, with the ability to swap souls to change up weapons and play styles. Given the more distinct art style, cinematic camera angles, and rich premise, it looks to be a much more ambitious undertaking than their previous work.
