The modern classic that is Sonic Mania was primarily the work of a small group of people, and now they’re forming an official game studio together. As announced by Christian Whitehead, who worked on Mania’s Retro Engine, the new Evening Star studio is based out of Los Angeles with operations in Melbourne and London.

Whitehead’s Retro Engine has evolved into the new “Star Engine”, which will minimize “the barriers between ideas and execution” while retaining its “foundational retro-inspired philosophy”. The new group is currently hiring, too, and one of the positions is for an environment artist who can “model low to mid-poly environments and props.”

Hopefully we’ll see even more gems from the studio across the years to come!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
