Just yesterday, SXSW Gaming’s Twitter teased that a certain blue hedgehog hero would be part of this year’s event.

Giving fans nearly 24 hours to speculate as what this could possibly entail, these wild theories will have another month to stew.

SXSW’s schedule and panels were released this morning. Among the list of activities in the gaming sections is a panel titled the Gotta Go Fast: The Official Sonic the Hedgehog Panel. Starting on March 16th at 1:00 p.m. PT | 4:00 p.m. ET, Jasmin Hernandez, Takashi Iizuka, Jun Senoue, and Aaron Webber will be speaking during the event. As for what the panel holds, this short description was included on the SXSW page:

“Sonic the Hedgehog is back at SXSW! Join special guests from SEGA and Sonic Team as they talk about the latest for the blue blur and his next steps for 2019 and beyond. There’s almost always a special announcement or two to be had, so be sure to stay tuned!”

Sonic is already poised for an action-packed 2019: a live-action movie, continuation of comic books, Team Sonic Racing out for Switch in May, and now more.

That’s not the only gaming event going on at SXSW though. Tournaments for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the Pokémon Trading Card Game will occur daily from March 15th to 17th. In addition to that, The Legend of Zelda fans can check out The Psychology of The Legend of Zelda, a panel aimed at discussing how and why fans have forged strong connections to the series on the basis of mental health and identity.

Any particular hopes for these surprise announcements at SXSW? Tell us your theories on Twitter!
