Throughout 2018, Sony was dragged through the muck when it came to cross-play support. Nintendo and Microsoft were happily letting players go up against each other in multiplayer games regardless of which platform they were on, while Sony’s PlayStation division stuck to its closed platform approach, at least up until September, where the restriction was lifted for Fortnite.

Now another game has joined the PlayStation Cross-Play Beta Program – Rocket League! Players of the PS4 version can now hop into the settings and enable the ability to play with fans around the world.

If you have friends who’ve put hours upon hours into the PS4 version while you’ve been scoring goals on Switch, you can finally go head-to-head online. Hopefully even more games follow suit in the months to come.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
