Fortnite is a phenomenon, there’s no doubt about it, and the free-to-play game’s arrival on the eShop last year likely had a bigger impact on the system’s popularity than we’d expect. Supporting this idea is this official ranking of the top 10 most-played Switch games across Europe in 2018, as put together by Nintendo of Europe and shared via the Switch News feature. Take a look at the full list:

1. Fortnite
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
3. Super Mario Odyssey
4. Splatoon 2
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
6. FIFA 19
7. Minecraft
8. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu
9. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee
10. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
11. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
12. Rocket League
13. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
14. Pokémon Quest
15. Stardew Valley
16. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
17. Octopath Traveler
18. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
19. Paladins
20. Super Mario Party
21. Mario Tennis Aces

While some games are surprisingly low, like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the Let’s Go! games, it’s worth noting that they launched later in the year, compared to Breath of the Wild and Odyssey which were available from January 1st thanks to launching in 2017.

It’s also worth noting that Fortnite is free-to-play, though the similarly free-to-play Pokémon Quest and Paladins rank much lower on the list.

Chances are Fortnite will continue to thrive for months to come, which is only a good thing for Nintendo, as more and more fans flock to the system.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
