The Nintendo Switch just can’t be stopped, with sales numbers moving ahead in all major territories. When put under the microscope in its home country of Japan, it turns out the Switch has now superseded its most direct competitor. According to a Resetera post pulling data from MediaCreate, Switch sales are now higher than the original PS4 and PS4 Slim combined.

This puts the Switch at 6.67 million, while the two PS4 types together are at 6.54. It’s no doubt impressive for Nintendo, though it should be noted this doesn’t put it ahead of Sony’s standing in the console market completely. There’s still the PS4 Pro to figure into the equation, which when included still puts the PlayStation ahead. Regardless, it’s an impressive feat for the Switch to be at this point in the lead up to its third year.
