While the Mario and Sonic rivalry isn’t quite as surprising now we’ve had over a decade of spin-off games and Super Smash Bros. putting the two universes together, there’s still something charming about the idea. It seems like famed video game composer Yuzo Koshiro agrees, putting together a cute little remix that gives Super Mario Bros.’s World 1-1 theme the Genesis soundfont, alongside a few Sonic sound effects.
 


 
Yuzo Koshiro has been iconic in the industry for years, composing for the likes of Streets of Rage, Etrian Odyssey, and Kid Icarus: Uprising. Recently, he’s been making waves with some Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remixes and a potential Streets of Rage 4 return.

Sadly, it’s pretty unlikely he’ll be scoring a full Mario and Sonic cross-over anytime soon, but at least for now we have a fun jam to listen to.
