While it should hardly come as a surprise, Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed on Twitter. that the DLC line-up for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been finalized.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC line-up is now complete. This time the selection was made entirely by Nintendo. I decide if we can create a fighter based on their selection, then come up with the plan.

According to Sakurai, the DLC characters were selected entirely by Nintendo at large, and after determining whether said characters would work as fighters he worked with them to come up with plans. Because the characters are chosen directly by the Big N, rather than Sakurai’s own picks or via fan ballot, we can probably expect to see more characters in the line of promotional big names than fan favorites. It’s unclear whether Piranha Plant was also a request from Nintendo (though given just how weird of a choice it is, I’m inclined to believe Sakurai snuck it in as a personal pick.)
Sakurai also made a separate tweet asking politely for the internet not to dogpile his team with requests, stating that he appreciates the fanbase’s passion but would like people to not flood him with requests unless they specifically ask for it. His wording also implies that the five characters in the Fighter’s Pass may be the only ones added as DLC, as he states the entire line-up is complete. So it would probably be best to curb expectations moving forward.
It’s great to dream about your favorite character joining the battle and I appreciate your passion, but please try to stay on topic when replying to tweets and refrain from flooding us, and other users, with requests when we're not specifically asking for feedback. Thank you!
