Smash wasn’t the only upcoming Nintendo game getting the spotlight yesterday – Treehouse: Live also dedicated some time to 2019’s Yoshi’s Crafted World. While we didn’t get a release date, several unknowns were cleared up as the crew played through two and a half levels.

For starters, while the flipping mechanic is retained from the game’s early days, they’re now completely separate levels with their own objectives. In the example shown, the flipside version involved tracking down and catching Poochy Pups.

We also got a look at the costumes Yoshi can wear, which basically act as armor, giving Yoshi some extra health pips. They’re also incredibly adorable – look at Yosh jiggle around in that giant macron.

The stage variety shown is also pretty fantastic, with a sweet-themed land, a Japanese castle, and a spooky graveyard complete with zombie shy guys. All of them are clearly hand-made, though, and on the flipside sweet stage you can even see some amazing labels featuring “Baron Potato”.

Yoshi’s Crafted World is shaping up to be one of 2019’s most exciting games so here’s hoping we see even more soon!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
