Piranha Plant coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC, will be free for a limited time | Nintendo Wire

At the tail end of today’s Smash Bros. Direct, Masahiro Sakurai began speaking about DLC. Somehow, Sakurai always manages to pull out some kind of surprise. By registering the game in a special, limited window of time you’ll receive the Mario series’ Piranha Plant as a fully playable fighter. You can’t make this up — a potted, eyeless, plant will join the ranks in Nintendo’s flagship crossover. With a Final Smash that brings out Petey Piranha with his Subspace Emissary cages, it’s a fun albeit strange callback that simultaneously fits in Smash and breaks precedents.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
