It was just a few months ago when the courts first lit up with plenty of online action, but Mario Tennis Aces is serving up an all new update in just a few days time to bring it to Version 2.0. Four new characters are planned for the game: Birdo as an All Around class, Shy Guy and Paratroopa as Technical, and Petey Piranha who’s so Powerful he doesn’t even need a racket. They’ll come along similarly to other downloadable characters, as rewards for online tournament participation.

More immediately though, special co-op challenges will be added to the game. Be teaming up with others online and working towards objectives, you’ll get yourself new outfits or colors for the playable cast. We’ve already got Mario’s classic outfit, but if you aren’t hype for a Chain Chomp wearing a hat with itself on it or tennis visor Boo then I don’t know what you want from this game.

More challenges will come along in due time, with Nintendo promising support all the way into next year. It’s great to see them stick to their online multiplayer games the way they are. Splatoon may be the standout example, but ARMS and now Aces have both benefited from this focus on free and fun longevity.
