The game takes places in Mudos — the primary setting of games in the Oddworld series — and stars the “Stranger,” a “tall, dark and enigmatic bounty hunter with a mission to capture troublemakers and scoundrels and return them to civilized townships for incarceration.”
The action-adventure game’s main mechanic is the Stranger’s crossbow, which he uses in a first-person perspective to fire live ammunition in the form of small, bizarre creatures with differing effects.
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath was first released in 2005 exclusively for Xbox and was met with very positive reception from critics.
Years later, the game was remastered in HD for PC and PlayStation 3 in 2010, the PlayStation Vita in 2012, iOS and Android in 2014, and the Ouya in 2015.
An HD version for the Wii U was announced in 2013, but the port was ultimately put on an indefinite hold in 2015.
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD follows Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! as the latest Oddworld series installment to come to a Nintendo platform.
No release date was given for the Nintendo Switch version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD, but according to Gematsu, it’ll be playable at EGX 2018 in Birmingham, England from September 20th to the 23rd.
