If there’s a stage that’s defined Smash on any level, it’s Final Destination. This flat, no frills stage was seen as the purest proving ground for the longest time, and while that attitude’s faded somewhat, it still stands side by side with Battlefield as the Super Smash Bros. stages.

Originally absent from the E3 announcements, we saw it briefly during the last Smash Direct. It looks to borrow most from Smash for Wii U’s version of the stage in aesthetic (though with even more flair in the stage’s platform itself) while maintaining its flat layout. The background’s the real star though, shifting between brightly lit to more dark and calamitous as the fight goes on. Try not to get distracted; we’ve still got a few months to go ’til December.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
