While the Switch has seen huge success with numerous genres, one hugely popular type of game has yet to find purchase: the MOBA, or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Tencent hopes to change all that when they bring the popular mobile hit Arena of Valor to the Switch. A recent trailer revealed the game will finally arrive on the Switch some time in September 2018.

The game plays very similarly to the big MOBAs like League of Legends and DOTA 2, but with some simplified systems, such as each character having three abilities rather than the typical four.

MOBAs have yet to really catch on when it comes to consoles. Previous attempts, like the Lord of the Rings game Guardians of Middle-earth, did not fare well, but it is possible the huge success of the Switch combined with its inherent portability will give the game a much bigger audience.

We will see how this popular genre fares on a new platform when Arena of Valor releases in September.
