Last year’s Nintendo Switch port of Wii U racing game Mario Kart 8 will be receiving additional updates, according to Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi in a new video posted on Twitter.
The information was slipped in during a plug of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s recently-added Nintendo Labo compatibility, where Mr. Takahashi told viewers that “there will be further updates planned for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, so please look forward to it.”

Shinya Takahashi works as the general manager of Nintendo’s Entertainment Planning and Development division, which was responsible for developing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and other Switch titles like ARMS, Splatoon 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
While the original Mario Kart 8 had a variety of post-launch DLC in the form of characters and tracks, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has yet to see any downloadable content or substantial updates — aside from Nintendo Labo compatibility.
