Psyonix has revealed that a feature that many players have been waiting for is finally coming to Rocket League: cross-platform parties.

This new feature will allow players on different platforms, specifically on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, to party up and play matches together.

Scott Rudi, the game director of Rocket League, announced the new feature during an interview on an episode of Inside Xbox:

“You’ll be able to party up with your friends on PC or Nintendo Switch using our new Rocket ID system, also known as cross-platform parties. We’re revamping how you level up to make it more rewarding, and we’re also introducing a new system called Rocket Pass to give you more ways to earn items in-game.”

The Rocket ID system will work similarly to the identification systems found in the Blizzard app or Discord.

The in-game ID will be a combination of a name and a unique code (e.g. KoopaTroopa#1234).

Players will be able to use this unique ID to find each other no matter what platform they are playing.

PlayStation 4 players will be able to participate in cross-platform parties with PC players, but not Switch or Xbox players.

Scott had also touched on the new “Rocket Pass” system that Psyonix is introducing later this year.

This new system had been mentioned by Psyonix before, and they had stated that it would be a “brand new, time-limited progression system that will give you several ways to earn new content in Rocket League.”

Rocket Pass will provide players with both free and premium content. Psyonix wrote a blog post earlier in June about Rocket Pass that stated the following:

“The Free Rocket Pass will have Rewards that unlock automatically, giving everyone the opportunity to earn FREE new Customization Items, Player Banners, in-game Titles and Decryptors. If you’re looking for additional content to unlock, you can choose to purchase the Premium Rocket Pass upgrade for ten Keys (USD $9.99 or regional equivalent). This comes with even more content, including new Customization Items, new Car Bodies, Keys, Premium Player Banners and Premium Titles. You’ll also unlock ‘XP Boosts’ that multiply your earned XP throughout the duration of your Rocket Pass, as well as ‘XP Awards’ that can help you advance through Rocket Pass more quickly.”

Lots of exciting updates are coming to Rocket League soon! We’ll make sure to keep you posted on the latest updates.
