In February of last year, Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida (“Yoshi-P”) revealed that he’d like to bring the immensely popular MMO to the Nintendo Switch, but Sony’s now infamous cross-play restrictions were holding it back. The requests for a port have only increased since then, and Yoshi-P addressed them once more during an interview with VGR.

When asked about bringing XIV to Switch and Xbox One, he revealed that discussions with the three major publishers (Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft) were still “ongoing” while noting that the team wants “as many to play as possible.” It sounds like cross-play is still the sticking point, but he “hopes to announce something as soon as [they] can.”

With the growing controversy surrounding Sony’s policies it’s possible this stepping stone will be overcome soon enough. We’ll be sure to bring you the latest news as it happens.
